The Olympic Oath, recited at the opening ceremony, is not a mere protocol formalism but a key sacred text of the "Olympic religion" conceptualized by Pierre de Coubertin. Inclusion of the Doping Issue (2000): Under pressure from the growing doping scandal, the text of the athletes' oath at the Sydney Games was expanded.
